We are looking for an enthusiastic and results orientated individual, with strong team leadership credentials, to lead the manufacturing operation at our Long-Life Confectionary Centre or Excellence at North Lakes in Penrith. This position is futt time and permanent.

North Lakes Bakery is the Greggs Centre of Excellence for the production of Long-Life Confectionary products including the Gingerbread Man and the popular Jammy Heart Biscuit. The established site is the sole producer of these iconic products with a number of manufacturing lines producing around a million pieces each week.  With over 100 permanent employees and significant seasonal uplift, working across a 3 shift pattern, the site is a challenging yet successful operation with potential for further growth to support our shop development programme and the continuing increased demand for Greggs products.


£45,000 plus benefits

Work Pattern

Shift pattern is day shift Mon-Fri, however flexibility is required as the site is operates on regular evenings and occasional weekends

Job Description

You will be responsible for managing the operational manufacturing team, maintaining world class standards for Food Safety and SHE management on site, contributing to the manufacturing strategy and implementing it successfully at site level, whilst driving excellent standards and ensuring continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively contributing to the development of the site manufacturing strategy, communicating and implementing it effectively across the manufacturing team
  • Leading the team in line with the values promoting a culture of leadership and responsibility, ensuring the team have clear objectives, regular reviews and personal development plans
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with the People, Engineering, Quality, Technical and Logistics teams to ensure the highest levels of customer service are delivered by the site
  • Creating and establishing ownership for product excellence, ensuring products are regularly monitored for taste, appearance and quality and potential improvements are identified within cost targets
  • Ensuring all products produced and handled meet specification and quality standards at the point of despatch Promoting a positive safety culture ensuring all operating standards are in line with Company policy and effectively supports site Food Safety and Safety Health & Environment strategies
  • Supporting site due diligence and commitment to certification against the BRC Global Quality Standard at a minimum ‘AA’ Grade
  • Establishing and achieving all relevant budgets and KPIs across all key areas
  • Driving the development of Supervisors, Team Leaders and their teams ensuring effective training programmes are implemented and new ways of working are maintained
  • Supporting and participating in effective recruitment, succession planning and performance management activities in line with Company policy
  • Supporting the team in reviewing Employee Opinion Survey results and in developing effective action plans
  • Ensuring the site continually strives to maintain Centre of Excellence standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years food manufacturing / production experience
  • Minimum Level 3 Food Hygiene
  • Level 3 HACCP desirable
  • Experience of leading, managing and motivating a team
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proven communication and influencing skills
  • Good numerical skills and at ease with financial reports
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
