We have an exciting opportunity for someone as a Supplier Technologist.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the approval, monitoring and management of 3rd party suppliers of food products and ingredients as well as storage and distribution sites, ensuring that food safety and legality are upheld. Within this role you are expected to ensure Customer safety and Brand protection whilst promoting a strong food safety culture within the 3rd party supply chain.

The base location for this role is flexible, and the successful candidate can be based anywhere within the country. Ability to spend time at Greggs House, Newcastle Upon Time, when required.


£32,000 - £37,000 per annum, depending on experience

Work Pattern

This is a full-time role (40 hours), Monday to Friday. Hours can be flexible but will need to fit in the role, travel and overnight stays are required as part of the role.

What you'll do

  • Maintain and utilise performance KPI reporting and RAG rating to drive continual improvement with the 3rd party supply base.
  • Complete supplier audits (based on risk assessment) in line with Greggs manufacturing standard and other appropriate Greggs standards
  • Proactively engage with the Commercial teams to support the development of finished products and selection of new suppliers by ensuring new supplier processes are in place.
  • Ensure internal systems are maintained to ensure compliance to the Greggs requirements for 3rd party suppliers as well as BRCGS standard for food safety and/or storage and distribution standard.
  • Lead liaisons on food safety and related incidents that occur with the 3rd party supply chain specific to your area of responsibility whilst ensuring strong communication and escalation to senior teams, as appropriate.

About you

You’ll fit right in at Greggs as a Supplier Technologist if:

  • You have a food science (or similar) degree or equivalent  
  • You are lead auditor trained  
  • You are Level 4 Food hygiene and HACCP level 3 trained 
  • You have strong engagement skills with internal and external stakeholders 
  • You show clear and concise communication skills 
  • You have the ability to multitask and deliver multiple tasks at the same time 
  • Risk assessment, prioritisation and decision-making skills 
  • You have the ability to take complex situations and simplify
  • You hold a full UK driving licence
  • You can show proven ability to manage difficult conversations  
  • You have evidence of Customer focus and ability to protect Brand reputation.
  • You have experience managing food safety audit programmes
  • You have experience managing food safety, integrity and legality of food products and/or understanding of processes and risks associated with – ingredient and product ranges relevant to Greggs shops
