We have an exciting opportunity to join Greggs as Payroll Manager.  In this role you will be responsible for leading a team of 18 payroll specialists to deliver an efficient and compliant payroll service for c.23,000 colleagues which meets the needs of our internal customers.

It is an exciting time for us, both as a business as we grow and add new sales channels such as delivery through Just Eat and also as a team following our implementation of SAP Payroll and SAP Success Factors cloud HR solutions.  You will strive for continuous improvement to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible, and pro-actively identify and manage any risks or changes from the wider business or external environment which may impact the smooth running of the payroll process.

The role will report into the Financial Processes Controller and will have direct line management responsibilities for four members of the Payroll team.

Salary

£45,000 - £50,000 competitive and dependent on experience

Work Pattern

40 hours over 5 days, Monday to Friday

About you

You’ll fit right into Greggs as a Payroll Manager if: 

  • You have experience of managing a SAP Payroll, and knowledge of SAP SuccessFactors for people data management would be desirable. 
  • You have payroll supervisory experience in a fast paced, high volume environment. 
  • You’re an established people manager with the ability to motivate your team to deliver exceptional customer service, mentoring those around you by sharing your knowledge. 
  • You have strong and up-to-date Payroll, Employment and HMRC legislation knowledge, as well as an understanding of GDPR requirements and related controls. 
  • You have great customer facing skills – both internal and external, communicating effectively across functions and grades. 
  • You have strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information provided, and used to working to tight deadlines. 
  • You’re proactive in your approach to ensure the role meets changing business and regulatory requirements. 
  • You are supportive of an inclusive culture – recognising and valuing that difference is good. 
  • You’re ready to work alongside some great people and have lots of fun on your Greggs journey!

What you'll do

Reporting into the Financial Processes Controller, our Payroll Manager is responsible for the end-to-end payroll process, leading a team to deliver an efficient and compliant payroll service and ensuring that all colleagues are paid accurately and on time.  We currently have four payrolls; two weekly payrolls for Retail and Supply hourly paid colleagues, one monthly payroll for salaried colleagues and one monthly payroll for pensioners. 

It is an exciting time for us, both as a business as we grow and add new sales channels such as delivery through Just Eat and as a team following our implementation of SAP Payroll and SAP Success Factors cloud HR solutions.  You will collaborate with our IT teams and external consultants to propose, plan and review changes to our SAP Payroll system including annual service pack upgrades.  

You will strive for continuous improvement to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible, and pro-actively identify and manage any risks or changes from the wider business or external environment which may impact the smooth running of the payroll process.  Liaising with our People team to be the Payroll expert on policy, benefits and process changes. 

You will have leadership responsibilities for the Payroll team based at our head office in Newcastle and will guide their long-term development, developing a common set of standards across the team which will drive high-quality best practice, meet KPIs and surpass customer expectations.
