This is a full-time, permanent role based at Greggs Innovate House, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Networks & Infrastructure services are massive enablers across the organisation and we are moving towards a cloud-biased model with that bias driven by a philosophy of reducing the time we spend keeping the lights on and, instead, focussing our attentions on value-add and service improvement.

 

In order to achieve this, we are now embarking on a modernisation of our infrastructure, driving a move away from commodity IT and manual processes, and towards a more automated and agile infrastructure provision in line with business aspirations.

 

This role is new to the organisation, and is a unique opportunity to deliver large enterprise scale modernisation and market leading infrastructure services within one of the most recognised national brands. We’re looking for skilled and engaging people to help us on our journey towards embracing all areas of the Microsoft 365 stack, public cloud technologies, and driving automation both within IT and the wider business.

 

Because we’re largely brown-field, the successful candidate will also be required to have strong knowledge of on premise technologies relating to compute, storage and network, in particular around how to re-architect, migrate and transition such services in a cost efficient and scalable way into Azure.

 

Whilst not a line management role, this role is nevertheless a leadership position – be it taking ownership of technical implementation or engaging with key stakeholders to ensure the embedding of technical change in the business, its vital that you can both implement technically to a high standard, whilst also ensuring that this technical change delivers the benefits required. Salary

Upto £40,000 depending on experience.

Work Pattern

Our working hours are usually Monday - Friday however we are open to discuss flexibility with regards to this working pattern with the successful candidate.

 

What you'll do

Within the IT & Business Change function as our Azure Technical Lead, you will be responsible for assessing our current infrastructure, in conjunction with key stakeholders, the wider network and infrastructure team, and N&I and IT leadership, and designing and implementing a new technical model based heavily upon Azure technologies with significant elements of hybrid. As such, you will have excellent technical knowledge of Azure services, both implementation of new and migration of existing on premise workloads, not only from a technical perspective but also ensuring fundamental agility and cost efficiency is inherent throughout.

 

This role will also be key in driving the non technical changes required to embrace cloud technologies most effectively – you will ideally have strong knowledge around Infrastructure as Code technologies, principles, and working practices. The ideal candidate would also have significant exposure to automation, CI/CD, and understanding of DevOps practices. A strong knowledge of containerisation approaches would also be highly beneficial.

 

It would be highly desirable for you to have had experience in the Microsoft 365 platform, particularly Azure AD, SharePoint and Intune – but most important is to understand where this platform fits within the wider public and hybrid cloud approach.

 

It is vital to understand that the primary scope of this role is not relating to development, and the infrastructure primarily being designed is not relating to web applications. This makes the challenge facing a successful candidate all the more exciting as we strive to be more at the leading edge with our core infrastructure services to support the entire business. We would however welcome any applicants from a more recent development background but with very strong infrastructure knowledge given the increasing overlap between development and infrastructure.

About you

Technical Change

Play a key role in the Greggs IT & Business Change development by:

  • Contributing to architecting, design and implementation of infrastructure technical change across our core infrastructure, implementing a new Hybrid and public cloud model.
  • Ensuring that change is implemented in line with business needs and priorities and is clearly communicated with key stakeholders within and outside of IT to demonstrate business benefits.

 

Knowledge Leadership

Utilising the senior level of technical knowledge possessed, this role will be critical for ensuring:

  • Supporting cross skilling and transition of services across the wider IT team, including new non-technical approaches.
  • Creation of robust documentation and guidance suitable for various audiences, including detailed technical documentation for peers, technical process documentation to facilitate handover to support teams, and end user guidance documentation to support adoption.

 

Project Management

Whilst not directly a project management role, this role is key to ensuring timely and quality delivery of technical work and will work closely with both technical leads and project managers to ensure this. The post holder must be confident and clear in communicating with project stakeholders to ensure risks and issues are raised, and otherwise provide regular updates to ensure transparency across the project(s). This role will need to be self driven as the subject matter expert around our public cloud direction, and therefore there are times when various elements will not only require design and implementation, but project management around this.
