Greggs are seeking a new Head of Commercial Planning to lead our Commercial Planning function.

Reporting into the Commercial Director the role will be responsible for the Forecasting and Replenishment Team and the Master Data Management team, ensuring we maximise shop availability and minimise waste, and support the business with effective and data of the required quality.

The successful candidate will be experienced in trading and retail management and have demonstrable experience of leading a complex Forecasting and Replenishment Function.

The base location for this role is flexible, and the successful candidate can be based anywhere within the country. Ability to spend several days a week at Greggs House, Newcastle Upon Tyne, is desired.

Work Pattern

Our working hours are usually Monday - Friday, you may be required to work alternative hours to fulfil business needs. We are open to discuss flexibility with regards to this working pattern with the successful candidate.

Job Description

We are looking for experienced business leaders who thrive working as a part of a fast-paced environment to join us in the role of Head of Commercial Planning.  Working closely with the leads of a dynamic customer-centric commercial team you will experienced in balancing achieving long-term strategic aims and day-to-day trading targets.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Responsible for the Forecasting and Replenishment team, delivering great customer availability within the agreed waste parameters.

  • Lead the team who create forecasts by product and by shop, maximising sales through great availability.
  • Work closely with Retail and Finance to deliver the waste targets, whilst taking overall accountability for the waste number.
  • Lead the demand forecasting process across the business, ensuring a collaborative approach with Supply Chain and Procurement, to ensure we have an unconstrained view of demand.
  • Review key metrics on performance and drive actions to improve performance.
  • Lead the creation of forecasts for non-standard/exceptional trading periods, such as bank holidays, shop development and other local events and activities.
  • Ensure all processes and solutions are designed to meet the specific needs of the business, and take into account our different article attributes and types i.e., sellable products, shop ingredients, packaging and consumables.
  • Ensure the team support the new channels in the business, and define strategies and approaches to meet needs of these different channels, whilst delivering great availability within waste parameters.

Pricing and Promotions

  • Oversee and develop the pricing and promotion strategy, defining business principles in our approach to customer pricing
  • Manage and deliver the price vs. cost inflation target for the Greggs business.
  • Work with the Category team to monitor key competitor pricing.
  • Develop promotions and pricing strategy for our new channels

Ranging

  • Ensure an effective ranging process that optimises selling opportunities within agreed waste parameters across the business.
  • Drive the range review process as part of the product lifecycle management process.
  • Lead the workstream to deliver an optimal range by channel based on customer needs, taking into account different dayparts and operational complexity.

Master Data Management

  • Lead the Master Data Management function ensuring its continued effectiveness as a partner to all functions in the business.
  • Drive the business partnering approach across to ensure effective collaboration and ensure the importance of data quality in the business is understood.
  • Work in collaboration with the IT and Business Change teams to understand the new data requirements in the business, and ensure we have processes in place to support these requirements for all current and new initiatives.
  • Deliver on the Master Data Management and Master Data Governance Strategies

  • The ability to engage with a large number of people
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Exposure to and a strong understanding of ranging approaches
  • Experience in delivering complex, companywide initiatives or operating models
  • Experience of leading, managing and motivating large teams
  • Proven ability to use initiative and set direction for the business
  • Outstanding influencing skills are required
  • Experience in trading and retail management
