About You

You'll fit right in to Greggs as an Engineering Manager at our Manchester site if:

  • You have proven experience and know what you’re talking about when it comes to food manufacturing/production
  • You’re a leader who has experience in managing teams, building team capability and motivating your people to bring their best every day
  • You have an engineering qualification
  • You have a track record of delivering performance improvement & cost reduction
  • You use your problem-solving abilities to identify the root cause of an issue and come up with a permanent solution
  • You have experience in delivering local capital projects
  • You’re good with Microsoft Office 365 and have previous experience of Reliability Centred Maintenance
  • You have experience of a CMMS, and in particular Agility, and have had exposure to AutoCAD (desirable)

What You'll Do

An opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join our Manchester manufacturing operation.

You'll report into the Supply Chain Operations Manager with the main focus of the role being to make sure the bakery plant, equipment and facilities run smoothly at all times and meet the needs of the business. You'll lead our team of maintenance engineers in line with our values, with high visibility, promoting a culture of achievement and responsibility. You'll draw upon your experience and use Lean Manufacturing & TPM principles to maximise efficiency and make sure that all activities are carried out safely and in line with Good Manufacturing Practice.

​​​​​Safety, quality and compliance in daily life will be your priority and you'll support Engineering and cross-functional team to achieve manufacturing excellence. You'll do this through communicating plans and setting standards for the Engineering team, using the Engineering budget to maximise its value to the business and making sure external developments in legislation, regulatory and technical standards are met. Of course, you'll also assure effective use of our Agility Computerised Maintenance Management System.

When it comes to the strategic picture, you'll be involved in site improvement activities and support the rollout of Lean Manufacturing. You'll be key to making sure the local delivery of our Engineering and Maintenance plans are aligned with our national strategies and this includes reducing the environmental impact of operations and actively identifying opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption. You'll also be involved in planning, organising and delivering local projects of up to £250,000.
